The hotel suite pressed around her in a cocoon of stillness. The faint hum of the air conditioning wove through the silence, broken only by the occasional rustle of fabric as Amara shifted in the plush armchair by the window. Beyond the glass, the city sprawled in a sparkling mosaic of light, its vibrancy muted by the tinted panes. The skyline seemed impossibly far away, like a dazzling dream she couldn’t quite grasp.
