The coastal wind carried the tang of salt and the earthy scent of wildflowers as Alice followed Maggie along the path to the cliffs. The child skipped ahead, her blonde curls bouncing with every step, while Alice trailed behind, her hands tucked into the pockets of her sweater. The morning sunlight dappled through the high grasses, creating shifting patterns that danced across the uneven trail.
