The elevator doors glided open with a faint ding, revealing the pristine, glass-walled offices of Alexander Airlines Headquarters. Alessia adjusted the strap of her weathered leather tote, her thumb brushing over an exposed thread on the strap, a small habit she’d developed during moments of stress. Her chest tightened as she stepped onto the 22nd floor, the polished hum of office chatter and the rhythmic tapping of keyboards creating an undercurrent of energy that both invigorated and intimidated her. The faint clatter from the in-house espresso machine added to the background noise, the smell of freshly brewed coffee teasing her senses but offering little comfort.
