The rhythmic tap of Isla’s low heels echoed faintly against the cobblestones as she approached the converted warehouse. The art center stood quietly against the backdrop of the river, its exposed brick walls glowing in the soft hues of twilight. Her mind raced with arguments to justify this unplanned visit, but none felt satisfactory. She had told herself it was to understand the project’s urgency, to better assess the man behind his frustration.
