The soft hum of voices filled the halls at Dalton High, rippling outward like a pebble dropped into still water, only to grow sharper and louder as it passed from mouth to mouth. I didn’t need to hear the specifics to know who they were about.

Whispers coiled around my name, clinging to the edges of my thoughts like cobwebs, sticky and impossible to shake.
