I didn’t know what possessed me to say yes when Carlos suggested I join him for a workout at Oakridge Athletic Center. Maybe it was my guilt from that last empanada I’d scarfed down at Casa Alvarez. Maybe it was my morbid curiosity to see if I could survive a gym session without embarrassing myself. Or maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with the way Carlos’s eyes lit up when he casually asked, “Think you can keep up?”
